Tomorrow starts the Olympics one of the biggest events in the world, in beijing 2008. To get to know a little bit more about the history of the olympics i will give you some facts about the medal winners, the places and the stars.
first of all here is a list of where the olympics have been hosted.

Most Medals by a single contender (male)
Aleksandr Dityatin from the USSR won 8 medal in 1980 in Gymnastics with 3 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze.

Most Medals by a single contender (female)
Maria Gorokhovskaya from the USSR 1952 won 7 medal in Gymnastics 2 golds and 5 silver.

Most Gold Medals by a single contender (male)
Mark Spitz from the USA won 7 gold medals in Swimming in 1972.

Most Gold Medals by a single contender (female)
Kristin Otto from Germany won 6 gold medals in Swimming in 1988.

Top three most gold medal sorted by country.
USA 872 gold medals
USSR (1952-88) 395 gold medals
France 188 gold medals

I hope my own country Denmark is gonna take som medals this year about 7 or 8 and im satisfied. We deffintly got a change of winning a medal in handball (men), Shot put (men) and some type of rowing and sailing.
